Microspace to
Demonstrate First 4K Digital Cinema Transmission
(16 April 2004) Microspace
Communications Corporation (Microspace) is to deliver 4K content at NAB2004's
Digital Cinema Summit. Microspace will work with QuVIS, a leading provider of
digital motion imaging technology, to provide the first end-to-end fulfilment
of Digital Cinema Initiative's (DCI) new architecture requirements, which call
for development of a complete 4K delivery system compatible with current 2K
projectors.
Microspace's Velocity satellite service and
QuVIS' Acuity will specifically deliver the Standardized Evaluation Material
(StEM) mini-movie. The StEM mini-movie is a standard way to evaluate the
capabilities of digital cinema systems and compare them to film. It was
developed by the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) Technology
Committee and DCI, a consortium of seven film studios including Disney, Fox,
MGM, Paramount, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Universal and Warner Bros.
Studios.
