Tele-Network Enters Broadband ISP Market
(20 February 2004) Atlantic
Tele-Network Inc's wholly owned subsidiary Atlantic Tele-Center Inc (ATC) has
acquired the assets and operations of InterSat LLC, a Miami-based VSAT company.
With this move, Atlantic Tele-Network is entering the satellite service arena,
with a focus on providing satellite-based Internet, Intranet and VPN solutions
to the Caribbean, Central and South America.
The
InterSat Miami Teleport is fully operational and already providing service to
over 100 VSATs, using the Satmex 5 satellite footprint on Ku band. The
satellite Hub and VSAT terminals are based on the popular Gilat platform, which
offers considerable flexibility and advanced features including multiple IP
addressability, static IP, and VPN capabilities at very competitive
pricing.
ATC is launching an aggressive campaign to extend the
InterSat market share under the new name of Atlantic Tele-Sat (ATS) Inc. The
demand for VSAT services in Latin America and the Caribbean is rapidly rising,
and based on several major projects which have already started, ATS expects to
add hundreds of new locations by the end of the year, mostly for business,
corporate and government applications.
An executive team has been
appointed, totalling over 60 years of combined experience in the Latin American
and Caribbean telecom market. Patrick Cardozo, as President/CEO, is also
President of Newcourt Systems Inc a Toronto-based VSAT and VoIP company, and
was formerly President of Digicom/ATN Haiti, a subsidiary of ATN. Francois
Dugue, founded InterSat in Miami, and will continue as VP Sales/COO. Sean
Krivatch as Chairman of the new company is also CEO of Atlantic Tele-Center
Inc, a Guyana-based customer service call centre operation.
