Tachyon Networks and
Comsat International Partner on Broadband Services in Mexico and Latin
America
(25 February 2004) Comsat
International and Tachyon Networks Incorporated have announced a strategic
partnership that will allow Comsat to leverage Tachyon's network infrastructure
to offer reliable high speed broadband satellite services to large enterprises
in Mexico and portions of Central America and the Caribbean.
Comsat's extensive enterprise, carrier and ISP base of
customers will be able to take advantage of Tachyon's enhanced broadband
network portfolio at access speeds up to 2 Mb/s from the most remote areas not
served by wireline carriers.
The Comsat service went live in Mexico in
January, with Tachyon locating a gateway hub at Comsat's Mexico City teleport;
Comsat will provide sales, network and service management for the region.
Tachyon has provided services in Mexico, parts of Central America and the
Caribbean since 2000, serving customers including Rolls Royce Energy Systems,
Gates Rubber Company and Lexmark International from its gateway in San Diego,
California.
Tachyon enables the Comsat service to offer primary
broadband access and business continuity, providing total network redundancy
and ensuring that events such as natural disasters and landline outages do not
hinder data communications or reduce productivity. Comsat will leverage an
innovative network featuring terrestrial-like broadband speed, performance and
security, QoS guarantees and full TCP/IP open standards compliance to quickly
implement fixed and transportable solutions for primary and backup broadband
connectivity.
