Tandberg Television Prime Integration Enables Galaxy’s exTV Launch


(23 February 2004) Acting as one of the major integrators for exTV, Asia’s newest subscription television platform, Tandberg Television has provided a multi-channel television delivery solution with built-in expandability based on its evolution 5000 compression engine including MPEG-2 compression, modulation, multiplexing and decoding. TTandberg Television also undertook the role of prime integrator for the build and deployment, integrating conditional access, subscriber management and middleware from a host of market leading vendors.

exTV is Hong Kong's newest subscription television service and is designed to offer an exciting all-digital multi-channel service specially designed for the Hong Kong audience.

At launch, exTV will provide 27 channels that will cater particularly to the tastes and interests of the local TV audience. It brings a unique mix of innovative quality local programming and quality entertainment from around the world. This includes five exclusive Chinese channels supplied by TVB, Hong Kong's premium content broadcaster and one of the world's largest producers of Chinese language programming. It also includes two new exclusive Chinese movie channels and a wide range of news and infotainment programming from leading local and international content providers.

exTV subscribers will be able to enjoy free interactive services such as video games and electronic program guide. Future enhancements to the service include home shopping, home banking and advanced recording devices.

The exTV service is being uplinked from Galaxy's teleport in Hong Kong over an Intelsat VII series satellite and downlinked to roof-top receiving dishes. Existing in-building wiring will deliver the service to individual subscribers and apartments.
