French Canal+ for HD Distribution
(6 April 2006) SES Astra, an SES Global company (Euronext Paris
and Luxembourg stock exchange: SESG), has announced today a new contract with
French Pay-TV group Canal+. The agreement allows Canal+ to use a transponder on
the prime orbital position 19.2° East for the transmission of content in
High Definition (HD). Canal+ in HD has been launched on 30 March on Astra while
National Geographic HD will be launched in June 2006 on Canalsat.

Experiment with OICETS Satellite
(7 April 2006) The National Institute of Information and
Communication Technology (NICT) and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency
(JAXA) carried out optical communication experiments between March 22 and 31,
2006 using laser beams between the Optical Inter-orbit Communications
Engineering Test Satellite "Kirari (OICETS)" orbiting at an altitude of about
600 km and the optical ground station of NICT in Koganei, Tokyo.
