Hughes Supports
Sprint on GSA Networx Enterprise Contract
(19 June 2007) Hughes Network Systems,
LLC, the global leader in broadband satellite network solutions and services,
today announced that it is a member of Sprint's winning team for the recently
awarded U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) Networx Enterprise
contract.
Hughes will provide managed network access and
Internet services via broadband satellite as a subcontractor in support of
federal mission-critical telecommunications requirements. The Networx
Enterprise contract, which allows 135 federal agency customers to select
vendors to provide a core set of IP or wireless services, has a minimum revenue
guarantee of US$ 50 million, to be divided amongst the Enterprise awardees over
the life of the 10-year contract.
Hughes is the world leader in
providing satellite broadband networks and services, which are based on very
small aperture terminal (VSAT) technology. These network offerings are ideal
for connecting geographically dispersed offices, many in rural locations not
accessible by terrestrial or wireless alternatives. In addition, Hughes'
satellite-based solutions offer government a true alternate path, redundant
networking option for the purposes of Continuity of Operations (COOP) and
emergency response that ensures federal facilities, telecommuters, and mobile
employees can continue working even if an agency's primary terrestrial network
fails.
"Networx Enterprise is among the most innovative
telecommunications contracts in the federal government," said Tony Bardo,
assistant vice president of government services at Hughes. "Its emphasis on
leading edge, niche technologies allows agencies to meet two mission-critical
requirements: advanced technologies that meet the government's most complex
telecommunications needs and robust alternative networking capabilities
ensuring continuous, uninterrupted telecommunications services. We welcome the
opportunity to work with Sprint to bring Hughes' global track record of success
providing managed network access and Internet services/solutions via the
Networx Enterprise vehicle, as well as ensuring superior service, to federal
civilian and defence agencies."
