Orbital Data Net And
Spacenet Support Emergency Communications Networks In The State Of
Missouri
(7 May 2008) Spacenet Inc., a leading
provider of satellite network solutions, announced today that its advanced
satellite services have been deployed as part of an emergency response network
for two Missouri state agencies - Missouri Hospital Association (MHA) and
Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT).
The networks,
deployed and managed by Orbital Data Net (ODN), provide high-speed satellite
based links to support critical data and voice communications in the case of a
disaster or terrestrial connectivity failure. ODN is a leading satellite
network integrator and emergency services solutions provider, and a long time
member of Spacenet's Channel Partner Program.
The innovative solutions
are based on Spacenet's Connexstar Performance and Broadband series, and
support Voice over IP (VoIP), radio backhaul, and VPN Internet access. MHA and
MoDOT are utilising both fixed and transportable satellite services. In
addition, ODN is providing comprehensive technical support and training for
deploying and maintaining a satellite-based emergency response communications
system, as well as systems integration services with the customers' existing
equipment.
Missouri Department of Transportation Communications
Supervisor John Diggs said, "In the past, MoDOT has faced challenges with
implementing satellite communications systems that met our unique requirements.
Leveraging the expertise from ODN and Spacenet, we were able to overcome these
challenges and have successfully deployed a system that meets our needs,
including the implementation of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and Radio
over Internet Protocol (RoIP) services via satellite."
ODN CEO Greg
Heifner said, "The advanced emergency communications network solutions provide
numerous benefits to MHA and MoDOT, including an easy to deploy, versatile, and
scaleable transportable solution that supports all of their applications. The
solutions are critical for public safety measures, providing a high reliability
communications system in the case of a crisis or disaster. In addition, these
agencies have access to readily available satellite training, ensuring complete
support for their communications network before or during an emergency
situation."
Spacenet Senior Vice President of Marketing and Corporate
Development David Myers said, "ODN has demonstrated leadership in the emergency
communications market, and we are proud to have it as a member of Spacenet's
Channel Partner Program. In addition, we are very pleased that ODN continues to
select Spacenet's advanced satellite services to support the diverse emergency
management requirements for state and local government agencies like MHA and
MoDOT."
