About
ProtoStar 1
ProtoStar I is based on Space Systems/Loral's 1300
spacecraft bus, and will provide K-Band/C-Band relay capacity over the Asian
region. It is the first in a fleet of satellites that Asian satellite services
ProtoStar plans to launch for advanced satellite television services and
powerful two-way broadband communications access. The spacecraft was designed
to meet the needs of both emerging and existing direct-to-home (DTH) operators
in Asia, as well as other broadband communication requirements in the region.
It weighed 4,200 kg at launch.
The ProtoStar I satellite carries twenty
two 36 MHz-equivalent Ku-band transponders and thirty eight 36MHz-equivalent
C-band transponders for operation from an orbital position of 98.5 deg.
East.
