Primus Offers
HughesNet Broadband Satellite Service
(16 July 2008) Primus
Telecommunications, Inc. today announced that it has executed an agreement with
Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HUGHES) to resell HughesNet broadband satellite
Internet service to Primus customers in the continental United States and
Puerto Rico.
The agreement allows Primus to offer broadband
services to all its small- and medium-sized business (SMB) customers, including
those without access to landline broadband, such as cable and DSL, in their
areas.
"Through this agreement with Hughes, Primus can now provide an
alternative solution for customers who don't currently have broadband access,"
says Saradhi Vajja, vice president, Product Management and Chief Information
Officer at Primus. "We now can provide broadband access to a larger
market."
Primus began offering this service to customers on June 15th.
"We are very excited about the opportunity to sell HughesNet broadband Internet
service," says D.G. Gulati, president of Primus's U.S. Operations. "We look
forward to reaching out to new customers in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, as well
as offering this service to our existing customer base in areas where
terrestrial broadband service is not available. This service is being bundled
with Primus's other services and billed on a single bill."
"We are
excited to work with Primus to bring satellite broadband connectivity to their
customers," said Mike Cook, senior vice president of Hughes. "As a premier
provider of telecommunications solutions, Primus provides a significant
expansion in our distribution, strengthening our ability to bring broadband
services to businesses -- wherever they are located."
