Cubic Receives
Contract From Boeing For 10 Gb/s Data Link
(30 April 2008) Cubic Defense
Applications, the defence segment of Cubic Corporation (Amex: CUB), has
received a three-year research and development contract from Boeing Phantom
Works, Boeing's advanced research and technology organisation, to supply
products and services for the development of a new 10 Gb/s data link capable of
transferring very high bandwidth data from air and space sensors to ground
stations.
Current tactical data link systems allow real-time
transfer of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) information
from air to ground terminals at data rates of up to 274 Mb/s. Cubic will modify
its current Tactical Common Data Link (TCDL) receiver and transmitter to create
command and control hardware for the uplink portion of the RF Adaptive
Persistent ISR Data (RAPID) link. Cubic will also provide trade studies to
support Boeing's development of the 10 Gb/s downlink, the data link's air and
space-based component. Boeing's RAPID data link system is slated for delivery
in 2010, following ground and flight tests and demonstration.
