(16 April 2012) Hughes Network Systems, the global leader in broadband satellite solutions and services, today announced it has appointed Colonel Charles (Chuck) H. Cynamon (Retired) as senior director of its Defense and Intelligence Systems Division (DISD).

In this role, Col. Cynamon will be responsible for the analysis and application of commercial SATCOM technology to the overall DoD marketplace.

"Chuck is a well respected leader in the world of satellite communications and we are very excited he has chosen to join the Hughes team,” said Rick Lober, vice president and general manager of Hughes DISD.  “His many years of technical and program experience with military SATCOM and ISR systems, coupled with his understanding of the evolving needs of the community and the potential application of commercial technologies to meet these requirements, will be key in continuing our rapid growth in this and other market segments that Hughes is pursuing.”

Col. Cynamon joins DISD after retiring as the Chief, MILSATCOM Advanced Concepts Division, Military Satellite Communications Systems Directorate, Space and Missile Systems Command, Los Angeles Air Force Base. Cynamon was responsible for the advanced technology insertion for the Advanced Extremely High Frequency (EHF) and Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) systems and planning the Department of Defense’s next generation satellite communications architecture.

"With a recognized tradition of technical excellence and quality products, Hughes Network Systems is well positioned to play a prominent role in meeting the ever expanding communication needs for defense and intelligence users,” said Colonel Chuck Cynamon, senior director, Hughes DISD.  “I'm exceptionally pleased to join the Defense and Intelligence Systems Division team and look forward to delivering integrated, enterprise solutions for the company's US and international customers."
